This year’s Independence Day carries special meaning as our nation begins celebrating America’s 250th birthday. For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have built, defended, improved, and preserved something truly remarkable.
When the United States was founded, it introduced a revolutionary idea to the world: that government itself should be limited by a written Constitution, and that one of its highest responsibilities is to protect the God-given rights and freedoms of its citizens rather than grant them. That principle has inspired countless people around the world and helped create one of history’s greatest examples of individual liberty, innovation, and opportunity.
Like any great undertaking, freedom has never maintained itself. Every generation has been called upon to contribute in its own way. Some answered that call on battlefields. Others built businesses, farms, factories, roads, and communities. Millions have volunteered, served, raised families, invented new technologies, supported their neighbors, and worked hard to leave the country stronger than they found it.
