If you spend much time riding a Polaris UTV, your primary clutch is constantly exposed to one of its biggest enemies: dirt.
Dust, fine sand, mud, and belt debris don’t just collect around the clutch. On many clutch designs, they eventually work their way inside, where they begin wearing on critical moving parts. That extra wear can reduce performance, shorten clutch life, and eventually lead to expensive repairs.
In the short video below, Steve explains why keeping dirt out of the clutch is one of the keys to long-term reliability.
Dirt Creates Wear
The primary clutch is a precision component with moving parts that must operate smoothly every time you accelerate.
When dirt and abrasive dust get inside the clutch, they begin wearing on bushings, rollers, ramps, and other internal components. The more contamination that enters the clutch, the harder those parts have to work.
Over time, that wear can affect clutch performance, engagement quality, and overall longevity.
Heat Makes the Problem Worse
As internal components wear, friction increases.
More friction creates more heat, and heat is one of the biggest contributors to clutch wear. Excessive temperatures can shorten the life of clutch components while also affecting belt performance.
The result is a clutch that may no longer shift as smoothly or perform as consistently as it did when it was new.
The DURACLUTCH RXL Takes a Different Approach
The DURACLUTCH RXL was engineered to address both of these problems.
Its sealed cover helps keep dirt, dust, and other contaminants out of the shift cavity, protecting the precision components that do the work. By reducing contamination, the clutch is able to maintain smoother operation while minimizing unnecessary wear.
The RXL also features six rollers instead of the more common three. That increased roller count distributes the load across more contact points, producing smoother engagement and reducing concentrated wear on individual components.
Together, the sealed design and six-roller system help reduce friction, minimize heat buildup, and contribute to longer clutch life.
Built for the Real World
Whether you’re working on the farm, exploring dusty trails, hunting, or putting your UTV to work every day, your clutch is operating in challenging conditions.
That’s exactly why the DURACLUTCH RXL was designed the way it was. Instead of simply accepting dirt and heat as unavoidable, it was engineered to reduce both, helping deliver smoother performance, improved reliability, and a longer service life.
